DEPARTMENT OF Computer Science PROFILE

OVERVIEW

Computer science courses concern the practice and the theory of solving problems by computer. Specifically, computer programmers build and analyze tools that allow complex problems to be solved using a computer system. A component of computer science is studying and use of various programming languages, but computer science does consist much more than programming.

The focus of the Computer Science program is software design, that is, how you design and build software to serve a problem. Students will also have courses available for them in the areas of databases, programming, operating systems, and Data Structures. The mathematical theory of computer science aids in determining the efficiency and correctness of algorithms and programs. In addition, a computer programmer must understand how computers are built and operate. The systematic application of general methods and computing technology to actual problems is the essence of Computer Science.

The undergraduate degree in computer science prepares students both for careers in the computing profession and for graduate study. Course requirements ensure that students receive instruction in both practical and theoretical aspects of computer science.

VISION

To empower the graduates to be technologically adept, innovative, self-motivated and responsible citizens, possessing human values and contribute significantly towards being a center of excellence in providing globally standard education, through a conducive Teaching environment, that responds swiftly to the challenges of the ever changing world.

MISSION

  • To achieve academic excellence by imparting in-depth knowledge to the students through effective pedagogies and hands on experience on latest tools and technologies.
  • To pursue interdisciplinary research that will serve the needs of the entire global community.
  • To prepare students to be continuous learners in a connected world and imbibe professional skills and ethical responsibilities in them.
  • To strengthen the Industry-Academia interface that will help the graduates to emerge as leaders in academics or an inspiring revolutionary in entrepreneurship.

COURSE OUTCOMES

The BSc Computer Science helps to develop a widely applicable skill set in computing with strong programming and mathematics skills, as well as wide ranging skills in project management, effective presentations and teamwork. Graduate with a portfolio of work fit to present to potential employers. Depending on the chosen pathway, you can focus on particular areas of interest such as machine learning, web development, data science and video games. The explosive and ever-growing use of technology in business and commerce means that there's a whole range of different career possibilities for computing graduates. In terms of job opportunities and salaries, the IT sector is well ahead of most other industrial and commercial sectors.

OBJECTIVES

An ability to analyze a problem, identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solution. An ability to design, implement, and evaluate a computer-based system, process, components, or program to meet desired needs. An ability to function effectively on teams to accomplish a common goal.
